Wish the left would do something right for a change. Left gives up values in favour of politicking blogs.theaustralian.news.com.au/chriskenny/ind…
— Chris Kenny (@chriskkenny) March 14, 2013
@chriskkenny It’s not a left/right issue but one of fairness why should TV & radio news be regulated but print news not? who’s politicking?
— Emma Alberici (@albericie) March 14, 2013
@albericie Seriously? You too are supporting media regulation? I think Australia has fallen through the looking glass.
— Chris Kenny (@chriskkenny) March 14, 2013
@chriskkenny Broadcasters already regulated through ACMA what is wrong with PIMA ensuring press does what its own self-reg says it will?
— Emma Alberici (@albericie) March 14, 2013
@albericie because that is gov regulation and a blanket on press freedom – isn’t that obvious?
— Chris Kenny (@chriskkenny) March 14, 2013
@chriskkenny how exactly is it a blanket on press freedom to have self regulation strengthened but still self regulation? No legal sanctions
— Emma Alberici (@albericie) March 14, 2013
@vjboodie @chriskkenny like Productivity Commission? ACCC? FIRB? APRA? ASIC?
— Emma Alberici (@albericie) March 14, 2013
@albericie sanctions of withdrawal of protections – all overseen by a gov appointed advocate. Astonished any journalist could support
— Chris Kenny (@chriskkenny) March 14, 2013
@chriskkenny only get sanctioned if you don’t abide by rulings of your own self regulator .. where is the controversy?
— Emma Alberici (@albericie) March 14, 2013
@markatextor @chriskkenny have read a lot including the entire Finklestein Report. More people should
— Emma Alberici (@albericie) March 14, 2013
@albericie @markatextor You are supporting more gov regulation not less. What happened to you liberal instincts?
— Chris Kenny (@chriskkenny) March 14, 2013
@markatextor @chriskkenny the report showed how ineffective the Press Council was .. until the threat of regulation suddenly gave it bite
— Emma Alberici (@albericie) March 14, 2013
@colonelsandersp @chriskkenny @markatextor Show me how this is gov regulation .. that’s what Finklestein wanted and Conroy said No
— Emma Alberici (@albericie) March 14, 2013
. @albericie Public interest media advocate most powerful person in Oz media: impose his/her/gov standards on media. Anathema to freedom
— Chris Kenny (@chriskkenny) March 14, 2013
@chriskkenny what standards are you concerned about having to abide by?
— Emma Alberici (@albericie) March 14, 2013
@albericie Government standards. Any government’s standards. It’s that simple. When did you switch from libertarianism to authoritarianism?
— Chris Kenny (@chriskkenny) March 14, 2013
@chriskkenny Read Finkelstein to see overwhelmingly public trusts ABC more than any other media org & we most heavily regulated of all
— Emma Alberici (@albericie) March 14, 2013
@chriskkenny @albericie they are standards set by the self-regulating body itself. Hardly ‘government standards’.
— Elliot Giakalis (@ElliotG78) March 14, 2013
@elliotg78 @albericie You are an ALP member, advocating your team, and you don’t even make an argument. So you lose out on all counts
— Chris Kenny (@chriskkenny) March 14, 2013
@chriskkenny @elliotg78 I am not a member of the ALP so you prove you have scant regard for truth or accuracy #getyourfactsright
— Emma Alberici (@albericie) March 14, 2013
@elliotg78 @albericie says ALP lawyer. Standards subject to gov regulator approval/interpretation. Remember when Left argued for freedom?
— Chris Kenny (@chriskkenny) March 14, 2013
@chriskkenny @elliotg78 With freedom comes responsibility
— Emma Alberici (@albericie) March 14, 2013
@albericie Is the electronic media more responsible than print? If we all deferred to ALP/Greens like #ABC would that be acceptable to you?
— Chris Kenny (@chriskkenny) March 14, 2013
@chriskkenny deferred to ALP/Greens? what are you on about? the only thing not acceptable is your flimsy arguments against regulation
— Emma Alberici (@albericie) March 14, 2013
. @albericie A journalist publicly advocating a government’s attempt to regulate media standards. #thingsIthoughtIwouldneversee
— Chris Kenny (@chriskkenny) March 14, 2013
@chriskkenny I am not advocating any such thing. I am asking you to justify your response to what is patently far from draconian
— Emma Alberici (@albericie) March 14, 2013
. @albericie Oh now, you are backing away? But still suggesting we should accept regulation because it could have been more draconian.
— Chris Kenny (@chriskkenny) March 14, 2013
. @albericie And I explained very succinctly. Media content must not be forced to comply to government standards.
— Chris Kenny (@chriskkenny) March 14, 2013
@steveathan don’t presume to know anything about my politics. am arguing for a common sense approach to the media reform debate nothing more
— Emma Alberici (@albericie) March 14, 2013

Call me perverse, but that was a most enjoyable smack down and a glimpse into a vacuous Rupert minion parroting blatant political bias without doing his homework.
I cannot understand why anyone could purport a position without reading the source document, in this case Finklestien
http://www.dbcde.gov.au/digital_economy/independent_media_inquiry
You can see the frustration in Kenny. He just can’t accept that Emma Alberici won’t succumb to the media/journalist Groupthink. He seems almost incomprehending that someone in his line of work might have independent opinions. How dare you not think like the rest of us! LOL.
As for his usual old claim that the ABC is “leftist”, doesn’t give conservatives a fair go – that’s equably laughable. He’s gotta be trolling.
All Chris Kenny could contribute was the usual spouting of mindless & ignorant conservative drivel. You cannot reason with them as they are “always right”, in more ways than one. Emma Alberici was even accused of either having been hacked or of being a troll by some idiot. She had to contend with other rusted on conservatives, including Mark Textor, attacking her. Very typical of their type of dismissive bullyboy tactics, of the type of “go back to the kitchen woman” they use on intelligent, no-nonsense women, especially Julia Gillard.
Emma won that tweet battle hands down. Yay!!
Chris Kenny wears his ultraconservative views on his sleeve. He is an unabashed right wing commentator and anything that does not fit within his political points of view is beyond his intellectual capacity, so his opinions and replies to Emma Alberici are unsurprising.
If he was walking on the right side of a footpath and a strong wind forced his body to slant left of centre he’d grumble and accuse nature of bias
Kenny worked for the Rodent, so can hardly claim to be impartial or honest in that exchange. Likewise Textor.
Both terrified that the regulator will have the cojones to make them adhere to the standards they set themselves.
And that Rupert could well be found not to be a fit person to own media in this country.
Usual knee jerk dingbat nonsense.
” have read a lot including the entire Finklestein Report. More people should, Emma Alberici “
lt is nice to know sometimes we get through. One down. Many more to go.
