Alice Thompson ready to drive change: @margokingston1 #MackellarVotes #podcast

Alice Thompson (@Indy_Ally), former government infrastructure advisor to Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull is running as an Independent for the safe Liberal seat of Mackellar on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. Alice spoke with No Fibs founder, Margo Kingston (@margokingston1) on the latest episode of the No Fibs podcast about why she is running and how she’ll be different.

Alice Thompson lives near Pittwater with her young family, and is impatient and frustrated with the policy paralysis and dysfunction that she believes is holding Australia back. She is campaigning for immediate action guided by long-term thinking.

I’m guided by evidence but understand that to be effective, policies must be supported by the communities they affect.

Alice Thompson

I think people pay enough tax – it’s about priorities and making the right investments particularly on infrastructure.

Alice Thompson

As stated on her website: neither of the major parties offer any real choice. We are stuck between the class wars on the left and the culture wars of the far right. No party is doing enough on the environment.

It’s easy to point the finger and say it’s not good enough. But I know first-hand that governing is hard. So I’m standing up to make it better. I know from experience I am more effective driving change from within government than complaining from the outside.

Alice Thompson

We’re living in one of the best places in the world. And we have an opportunity to build from our successes to make our community even stronger. But to do this, we need government to stop playing politics and start governing.
