Kerryn Phelps stepping up again: @margokingston1 #WentworthVotes #podcast

Margo Kingston (@margokingston1) interviews federal Member for Wentworth Dr Kerryn Phelps (@drkerrynphelps) to discuss why being authentic and delivering on her election promises plays a critical role in her re-election campaign in Wentworth. They analyse the policy paralysis that has afflicted the Australian Parliament for the past decade and question whether the recent move of Dave Sharma into the electorate will impact his campaign hopes.

If Malcolm Turnbull as prime minister could not have an impact on climate change policy with the reactionary right in the liberal Party, what hope does a potential Liberal backbencher going to have on climate policy?

Dr Kerryn Phelps

People are smarter than that. They know you can’t just be a local and be across the issues and the sentiment and the values of an electorate just because you move in six months later. If he doesn’t win, is he going to move out again?

Dr Kerryn Phelps

It is the same government who removed Malcolm Turnbull, this is the same government that has been paralysed on climate action for the last six years and people are looking for change, they are looking for a government that has both heart and head.

Dr Kerryn Phelps

The feedback I’m getting is that people appreciate the fact that I promised that I’d do everything I could to get kids off Nauru – that’s happened. I promised that I would do whatever I can to get more humane, particularly medical assistance to people seeking asylum on Manus Island and Nauru – I’ve done that.
