(January 7, 2015) Day 2 – Lisa Newman happy for Campbell to lose
- The Guardian’s Joshua Robertson reports that the bookies have shortened the odds that Campbell Newman will lose his seat of Ashgrove: “The Liberal National party’s 2012 ‘decapitation’ strategy comes back to haunt premier”.
- Campbell Newman has distanced himself from Prime Minister Tony Abbott saying, “This demonstrates that any suggestion that this government is anything other than sovereign and independent of the federal Coalition is false.”
- Newman has referenced “asset sales” instead of “asset leases”.

- A lot of interest in the infamous 2012 Newman “non-handshake”. @7NewsBrisbane has the story:
- @9NewsBrisbane’s Katherine Feeney has a good overview of the seats Labor would need to gain to win the election:
- Opposition Leader Annastacia Palaszczuk flew to Cairns to announce the reintroduction of the Skilling Queenslanders for Work program which was axed by the Newman Government in 2012. “Queensland Election 2015: Jobs first-up target for Qld ALP”.
- In 2012, the Newman Government scrapped the Skilling Workers Queenslanders for work program. A good piece by Paul Syvret from August 18, 2012: “Axed Skilling Queenslanders for Work scheme was making billions of dollars, finds Deloitte report”.

- “My ongoing mission if I’m re-elected as Premier is to continue the fight to throw them out of this state.” – Campbell Newman vows tougher action against bikies if re-elected.
- Lenore Taylor takes a look at the Queensland election in relation to Tony Abbott’s chances when he goes to the polls: “Campbell Newman’s election pitch is a test run for Tony Abbott”.
- Federal Coalition MPs deny Tony Abbott’s unpopularity will hurt Campbell Newman’s re-election bid

- Qld politics flashbacks: 1/8/14 At a campaign launch in Redlands, Lisa Newman admitted she didn’t want Campbell to become Premier, “Lisa Newman on life after politics”.
- Premier Campbell Newman has admitted that his wife Lisa will be happy if he loses.
- Premier Campbell Newman and the LNP team are avoiding Premiership speculation post-election by saying if he doesn’t win Ashgrove it means the LNP won’t win government. It’s a similar argument used in 2012, that if he didn’t win the seat from Kate Jones, then it would mean a Labor win.
