Queensland Liberal National Party (LNP) Senator <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Matthew Canavan (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mattjcan\" target=\"_blank\">Matthew Canavan<\/a> today pointed the finger at the Queensland Labor government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Approve the Adani mine now,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/2S0n8eETII0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"he demanded. (opens in a new tab)\">he demanded.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, it&#8217;s not as straightforward as Senator Canavan implies. The excitement over the project has been welling for just over eight years. Coal tenements in the Galilee Basin for 7.8 billion tonnes <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"were first purchased in 2010 from Linc Energy (now defunct) (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/business\/adani-seals-deal-with-linc-energy-20100803-115k4.html\" target=\"_blank\">were first purchased by Adani in 2010 from Linc Energy (now defunct)<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Wangan and Jagalingou (W&amp;J) people are the traditional owners of the land. Over time, two groups emerged, one for the mine and another against. One of the key Queensland government actions that would have to occur is the extinguishing of Native Title. However, the state government has confirmed it will await the Federal Court proceedings by the anti-Adani W&amp;J group before that occurs.
